Elegant, reverent, and holy. However, I did want to mention that in case you don't read dimensions and details, this book is enormous. Looks like a graduate math textbook!! Con: too enormous to take to Mass.

That's OK, I have other small devotional books. Pro: super easy for middle-aged people to read without glasses and great for a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament. I can read the large type without reading glasses and so can easily go back and forth between reading prayers and gazing at the Blessed Sacrament without being distracted by juggling glasses.

No modernization That is a concern for me. When contemporary prayers many times seem to miss the mark on touching the heartfelt meaning of what you want to convey to your Heavenly Father, you can confidently turn to this prayer book and find what you seek. Father Francis Xavier Lasance was a very devout priest. Having suffered with years of poor health, Father Lasance had time as a chaplain for personal, spiritual contemplation and deep, genuine devotion to our Lord.

Part one of the prayer book includes several pages of his personal reflections on a variety of spiritual and sacred topics that are deeply insightful and gently coax your own spiritual contemplation and relationship with God.

One of my favorites is a prayer used to prepare for a good death called "Conformity to God's Will" - "Behold me, Lord; do with me what Thou wilt, May Thy will be ever done; I only desire what Thou wilt. I desire to suffer what Thou willest; I desire to die when Thou willest.

Into Thy hands I commend my body, my soul, my life, and my death. I love Thee, O my God, whether it pleaseth Thee to send me consolations or afflictions, and I desire to love Thee always. Good pleasure of my God, I devote myself entirely to Thee. I can enthusiastically recommend this prayer book especially if you yearn for pre-Vatican II traditional content like I do!

The quality of the book itself is superb and should provide a lifetime of thorough use. This is an excellent prayer book. Originally published in by the venerable Benziger Bros.

It also has excellent meditations for Eucharistic meditation and prayers for reception of Holy Communion. The distinguishing feature of this prayer book, however, is that it is chock-full with helpful meditations and inspiring quotes for living the full Christian life.

Father Lasance was obviously a very wise man and a holy priest. Yes, but for a very portable vade mecum for Christian living, including our daily life of prayer, I believe it is well worth it. Excellent reprint. Would give the fifth star and even be willing to pay more for a soft leather cover and gilded edges.

I feel that those additions would add to the longevity of the book. Wonderful book! Hard cover and good quality print make a great choice for a gift. Go to Amazon. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. Alexa Actionable Analytics for the Web. DPReview Digital Photography.

My prayer book; happiness in Goodness: Reflections, counsels, prayers and devotions

Lasance, first published in According to the description on Fraternity Publications website , this is a classic book of prayers and devotions, many with side-by-side Latin and English. But it is much more than a prayer book. The first pages are devoted to reflections and counsels on how to be happy in the truly Christian sense of the word. They are useful particularly for meditation.
